I've got such a generous Dad!

I was delighted to see the shadowboxes that my Dad brought me from Calgary. There's only one in the picture since I was in a hurry and I shot the other picture at an angle :P

My Dad apologized for the state of the frame, saying I'd want to repaint it. I said I wouldn't repaint it, it's already shabby chic!

I've decided that I will do four shadow box scenes (this is in addition to the pioneer kitchen scene, and the small white shadowbox which will be a book nook) for the September Show and Sale.

I plan on doing a Wedding Scene, Beach Scene, Nursery Scene and Christmas Scene. I plan to sell customized shadowboxes to celebrate special times, such as a wedding, new baby or graduation. I will  print out business cards and give them out at the Show and Sale in September, and also sell them on Etsy.

I was thrilled when my Dad told me that he enjoys making shadowboxes and room boxes, and that he would like to make many more, but he doesn't plan to sell them himself. He'll give them to me to sell at a fair price, he only wants to recoup the cost of his building supplies!

I was stunned and touched by such a generous gesture, although it's not unlike my Dad. He has always been generous with his wife, three kids, and others.

I'm also very excited about this as a potential way to earn more money in miniature related stuff. I think I'll be able to sell most of them locally! Although I will have them in my Etsy Shop.

I'd like to extend a warm welcome to Conny, my newest follower.

Must run!

Ruth

  2. Hello from Spain: I like your box. You have nice future projects. I like the case with elements of the wedding and to celebrate the birth of a baby. Keep in touch

  3. The shadowbox idea is a great one! Such a good way to sell minis to those who may not have dollhouses, but would be interested in celebrating certain milestones (as you mentioned)! Love it! And your dad is awesome!

    1. Thanks Linda! I hope it will be a popular idea, because I love putting together scenes probably more than anything else. It will be a lot of fun for me, if I get a lot(or even a small amount) of orders.

  6. Hi Ruth! The shadow boxes are great and your dad has done a great job of them! How nice if the 2 of you could start a little family business together. I look forward to seeing your first finished creation done inside of them.

    1. Thanks Elizabeth! I think we'll be able to sell them as fast as my Dad makes them!
Maybe that's being over confident, but I think there is a huge demand for these small room boxes and shadowboxes, and in Edmonton there isn't a brick and mortar store where you can go buy them. There used to be, but it was a family business that the kids weren't interested in continuing. Oh, well! Bring on the small business entrepreneurs!

  7. Your Dad has been very busy. Perhaps he would like to visit Australia and make some room boxes for me!!! It's great that your Dad is sharing in your passion for dollhouses. IndyPoppy

  18. I know! I am incredibly lucky. I wouldn't be able to make much of a profit if I had to buy a custom built shadow box, the cheapest I've seen for roomboxes is $50, plus shipping.
I am really excited because I just came from an art supply store where I regularly buy things for mini making. The employee that helped me said they would happily display my shadowboxes and miniatures and if I sell one through their store, they take a 10% commission. Such a great deal!
I would like to have as many local customers as possible. We could meet in person to discuss what kind room box or shadow box they like, and I don't have to deal with Canada Post. Yay!
